May the festival of lights brighten up your life with love, joy & prosperity.

Deepawali or Diwali, the beautiful festival of lights, has always been celebrated with a lot of fun, frolic, pomp, and merrymaking throughout our beautiful country of India. With all the houses lighting up diyas and candles in every corner, and beautiful rangolis adorning the floors, Diwali is a much-awaited festival for everyone. It is a time that fills the houses with love and reignites the liveliness of family, bringing them together to feast and celebrate.

The true meaning of Diwali

Diwali marks the defeat of evil in front of good. It marks the end of treachery in front of righteousness. It declares the victory of truth over falsehood. It brings an end to the darkness with light. According to Ramayana, Diwali celebrates the victorious return of Lord Rama to Ayodhya after spending 14 years in exile and defeating King Ravana. It also commemorates Lord Krishna’s victory over Narakasura. The victory of good over evil is the major message to be learned as all come together to celebrate Diwali.

Diwali celebrations are incomplete without the tradition of giving gifts to loved ones. It is a festival of appreciation, love, and prosperity. Exchanging gifts builds and strengthens the feelings of companionship and fellowship among all. It makes everyone feel closer to each other in the festive mood.

Families come together and indulge in feasts during Diwali, making the most of the few days of celebration. Lots of money are spent to buy gifts, clothes, and food for this festival. But let’s stop and consider the thousands of people who struggle every day to get a morsel of food. Every day they look for ways to feed themselves and their families. The joy of Diwali doesn’t reach them as they fight hunger each day.

Iskcon Dwarka urges you all to take a pause and think of those thousands who are struggling for food, malnourished and unhappy. While you are thinking of ways to celebrate Diwali, they are thinking of ways to find food. This Diwali, let them not feel hunger anymore. You can bring a smile to the faces of those who have been crying out of hunger. Join hands with Iskcon Dwarka through donations and help feed those who are hungry and in need. Spread the Diwali cheer not only among your family and friends but beyond as well.
