ISKCON Delhi had served more than 2.5 crore meals during lockdown and still counting.

Social distancing is necessary to help limit the spread of the virus. Still, for millions of , people food insecurity is a much more serious issue as typically they cannot afford to stock up on food supplies. Sensing that the economically weaker sections of society will grapple with a shortage of food in the wake of this nationwide lockdown, ISKCON authority, Shrila Gopal Krishna Goswami Maharaj remembered the message of his preceptor, Founder Acharya of ISKCON Shrila Prabhupada that “no one should go hungry”, and further directed ISKCON Delhi to “immediately arrange to distribute full warm meals of Krishna Prasadam”

Subsequently, ISKCON Delhi got in touch with the local authorities enquiring if they can help the government in their struggle to provide access to healthy food and adequate nutrition on a daily basis to the economically vulnerable. The government authorities are serving industriously to save the country during this time. They welcomed ISKCON’s proposal and approved it in adherence to protocols. Securing all the necessary approvals from the government, ISKCON Delhi stepped up efforts to help out.

Our aim is to reduce the food insecurity during this outbreak as it heightens health risks for vulnerable under inadequacy of basic nutrients.

Cooking Measures

ISKCON Delhi’s kitchens are taking all the precautions as per Health Ministry guidelines to prepare food in their kitchens. The food shall be prepared in the most efficient and hygienic manner in compliance with all the regulations during COVID-19 situation. We are undertaking the operations with an unwavering dedication to provide timely, healthy meals with a focus on combining nutrition with hygiene.

Appeal

Requesting your support to feed warm wholesome meals to vulnerable sections of the society, including those with pre-existing medical conditions, older adults, individuals experiencing homelessness, refugees and migrants, wage workers, those with inflexible jobs, and outstation students who depended on local roadside restaurants.

In addition, malnutrition increases vulnerability to disease.
