Gita Jayanti

On the auspicious occasion of Mokshadā Ekādashi or Gita Jayanti, Lord Sri Kṛishna imparted the divine transcendental knowledge of Srimad Bhagavad Gitāto Arjuna.

As Bhagavad Gita emanated from the lotus mouth of Lord Kṛishna on this day, it is also commemorated as the ‘Appearance Day’ or ‘Birthday’ of the Holy Scripture.

Just as the Holy Name of the Lord is non-different from the Lord Himself (‘bhinntvān nāma nāminoh); likewise, there is no difference between Lord Kṛishna and His instruction, i.e., the Bhagavad Gita.

The Bhagavad Gita is the essence of all the Vedic literature and scriptures.

This is the only scripture whose jubilee is celebrated.

Everyone wants auspiciousness; nobody wants grief, miseries, distress, and fearful situations in their lives. But still, we experience all these dreadful conditions now and then. Our lives seem to have no direction but an E.C.G graph, sometimes very pleasant, but at times very miserable.

But what are the complications? We must at least know ‘why these things are happening in our lives?’

Whenever we buy something, we get an Instruction Manual to help us understand how to use the bought thing, but not knowing how to make use of this human form of life we have got, we are performing acts whimsically, out of our own will. God has also provided us with an instruction manual for this body, and it is well known as Srimad Bhagavad Gita.

“Godless Society is a Headless Society”

Just like it is impossible to run the body without a head, without brains, similarly, to run this world without Bhakti (Devotional Service) is impossible.

Lord Kṛishna conveyed this instruction especially at the time of crisis, on the battlefield of Kurukshetra, in between both the armies, to proclaim that through this Bhagavad Gita, one can attain the highest perfection, the highest destination, even at the time of great difficulties. We learn from the Bhagavad Gitā how Arjuna presented many logics and arguments to justify his decision not to fight with the Kauravas. Still, when he became perplexed and bewildered, he prayed to the Lord as follows:

pṛcchāmi tvāṁ dharma-sammūḍha-cetāḥ
yac chreyaḥ syān niścitaṁ brūhi tan me
śiṣyas te ’haṁ śādhi māṁ tvāṁ prapannam

Arjuna here says, “Due to the miserly weakness of my heart, I have lost all composure and have become infirm. I cannot differentiate between right and wrong. In this condition, I am asking you to please tell me what to do. Now I am your disciple. Please instruct me.”

After giving aural reception to the holy words of the Lord, Arjuna, who earlier wasn’t ready to act according to God’s will, is now humbly agreeing to act accordingly:

arjuna uvāca
naṣṭo mohaḥ smṛtir labdhā
tvat-prasādān mayācyuta
sthito ’smi gata-sandehaḥ
kariṣye vacanaṁ tava

Arjuna said: “My dear Kṛṣṇa, my illusion is now gone. I have regained my memory by your mercy. I am now firm and free from doubt and am prepared to act according to your instructions.”

The people of this world are in a similar condition. They are all ‘confused,’ and as Arjuna, even at the time of crisis, was saved by the mercy of the Lord; we all can also overcome any dilemma when we take shelter of the song of God, the holy scripture, Bhagavad Gitā because It has a solution for every problem of ours.

Gita Jayanti

ya idaṁ paramaṁ guhyaṁ
mad-bhakteṣv abhidhāsyati
bhaktiṁ mayi parāṁ kṛtvā
mām evaiṣyaty asaṁśayaḥ

The Lord says, “Do not doubt My word, whoever preaches this Bhagavad Gita is very, very dear to Me; they certainly attain My supreme abode and come back home, back to Godhead.”

Therefore, on the auspicious day of Gita Jayanti, we must Read and Preach the Bhagavad Gita.

This Preaching can either be in the form of Kathā (Narration), One to One preaching to people, but the best form of Preaching is to gift the holy book, the Holy Scripture Bhagavad Gita.

People tend to give and receive gifts on occasions such as New Year and many other festivals, which they use for some time, but later on, the same gifts become uninteresting and thrown away. But the gift of the Bhagavad Gitā is pure and divine, and no one will ever throw it away.

We must give at least one Bhagavad Gita and preach Kṛishna Consciousness to someone on this Gita Jayanti. Just by doing such simple acts, we can become very dear to Lord Kṛishna and will surely attain the supreme abode of the Lord.

Just by doing so, we will be able to save ourselves and the whole world.

Srila Bhaktisiddhānta Saraswati Goswāmi Prabhupāda used to say that, “Don’t try to see Krishna, but act in such a way that Krishna Himself would come to see you.”

Hence, faithfully read, understand, preach and gift the Bhagavad Gita on this Gitā Jayanti; this will spread Kṛishna Consciousness, and you will become dear to Lord Kṛishna.

The Lord is always there for His faithful. If we sincerely associate with His words by studying His holy scripture, we will effortlessly be victorious over any war in our lives.

In the finale of the Bhagavad Gita, Sañjaya says:

yatra yogeśvaraḥ kṛṣṇo
yatra pārtho dhanur-dharaḥ
tatra śrīr vijayo bhūtir
dhruvā nītir matir mama

“Wherever there is Kṛishna, the master of all mystics, and wherever there is Arjuna, the supreme archer, there will also certainly be opulence, victory, extraordinary power, and morality. That is my opinion.”

On this Gitā Jayanti, let us all assist the devotees in the divine act of Book Distribution. Distribute Bhagwat Gita as much as you can and please Lord Krishna.
